I'm super excited to be gathering as much information as I can about hatching, rearing and keeping indian runner ducks, as we've not done so before. I have many questions, but one that is really pressing in my mind is about housing them. I assume because they are taller than the average duck, that they would need a taller house to live in. Can anyone recommend a good one, and perhaps suggest acceptable dimensions that would house 2-3 ducks?

thanks so much in advance!

Before I decided to convert a section of my garden shed I was considering getting a dog kennel, but I think it'd be easier for cleaning if the lid is removable?

Maybe something to bare in mind?

Yes, I was looking for something shed like but a smaller version, they obviously have to be quite tall to accomodate this particular breed's height, so a lot of what I'm seeing isn't suitable at all! Wish we had a shed we could convert!

You might like to look at Jim Vyse's range of duck houses, see http://www.jimvysearks.co.uk/Pages/DuckHouses.html
His business is on the B3400, halfway between Andover and Whitchurch, about 20 miles from Salisbury so near enough to visit if you are interested. This is a smallish local company making good quality equipment. At any rate, his website might give you some ideas on design.

Thank you Marigold, we are in the process of discussing what would be best, as we have a small shed we could also use, though it might need some alterations done first!

Oooo exciting!!! I use a B&Q shed with the window altered to be a covered ventilation grid and a ramp, it's perfect. I even have a shelf in there to store all their bits and pieces :)

Thanks, I had a lightbulb moment and realised that the lean-to on the side of our house is perfect, it is sheltered from the sun, and the door shuts properly so no foxes can get in, although it is well ventilated with small holes drilled into the top of the door, so they will be going in there :) A shelf is a great idea, though not sure hubby is enough of a diy enthusiast to give it a go, lol. My eggs are on day 5 of incubation, so fingers crossed!

I have a Jim Vyse Deluxe Duck house for sale, I'm not too far away from you.
