I wrote about this back in January - one of my pekins had, and still has, an ear infection in both ears. I was prescribed Surolan ear drops by the vet (over the phone) but they did no good, despite several courses of treatment. Since then I have taken her to the vets and she was given an antibiotic injection, which also had no effect. The vet inspected her and saw no signs of canker or gapeworm (she was wormed in January and is probably due for another worming soon). In his opinion it was not lice or mite related (I had treated my cockerel for possible northern fowl mite with Frontline not long before this), and anyway, I have also dusted her with louse powder and she bathes frequently in diatomaceous earth. Every day I bathe her ears to remove a combination of wax and cheesy gunk. She does not seem affected too much although she scratches her ears and gapes and shakes her head quite a bit. She is laying well - much better than her sister whose ears are fine. The vet reckoned that as she seemed otherwise well, rather than hit her with more horrible chemicals, we should leave her be, but as I will be going away for 2 weeks soon and won't be able to clean her ears out, I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions.

I'm guessing!
Has the possibility of Pigeon Canker (Trichomoniasis) been ruled out?
Its the best match to your description I can find on the net and apparently can affect chicken's ears.
Apparently can only be diagnosed by examining a fresh sample under a microscope.
???
Found that lead by searching 'cheesy chickens ears' as other searches were leading off down the multitude of results for bacterial infections (which presumably would have responded to the antibiotics)

I suppose it's a possibility, although the vet inspected her throat and there was no sign of canker so he ruled that out. I'll try to take another look myself.

It seemed to be implied by what I was reading that it might show up in the ears only, at least on chickens? It was the backyard chickens result on page 1 from that search I think.
It was from WWW.backyard chickens.com/t/164552/cheesy-ear-infection
Might be a load of rubbish. If it was pigeon canker then it shouldn't be untreatable (?)
