Just got our new coop and theIMG_4578.jpg perches seem quite low - only about 3" off the bottom. Is that too low? What height should they be?

They are a little low Anni, simply because they need to be higher than the bedding and once you put a good layer of bedding in there they will be at surface level. They don't need to be very high, as long as they are 3-4" above the level of the bedding they will be ok so if you raise them by that much it would be fine. It is also hard to tell from the photo but the edges look a bit sharp, ideally they will be chamfered to make them more comfortable for the birds.

The perches need to be higher than the nesting box or the hens are likely to sleep in the nesting boxes instead of roosting on the perches.
