I hope someone can help. A few days ago my little grower of about 10 weeks died. She was doing really well but when I got home last week she seemed drowsy and lethergic. After that we noticed she had lost most of her appetite and on picking her up she had green poo markings round her backside. Her mum is healthy and the 2 were on their own in their own coop though were allowed in the garden. We gave her a little antbiotic (only a small amount) but she did not pick up and died within 3 days which was very upsetting especially as she is the only hen we have ever hatched and she was so lovely

On checking the chickens today I have noticed that one of the girls in the main run seems not herself. She is still walking around and has a red comb but when she goes to poo what seems like a load of water gushes out. I would greatly appreciate any advice as to what it could be as being the weekend I can't get her to a vet and I would hate any more to die.
Claire.

On looking at her closely during today we think she has a problem with her crop. We have isolated her and straight away noticed she was constantly drinking water. I have trawled this site and it lead me to look at her crop. It was full like a watery balloon and a sticky saliva was dribbling from her mouth. I think it could be sour crop so we massaged her crop holding her downwards and loads of sticky stuff has come out. She is also squiting water from her bottom (probably all the water she has been drinking and not eating much.) Not sure what else to do until we can take her to a vet. I am most worried that she will not eat.

Hey,
Hows u litle gal with sour crop.
Sorry to hear about baby dying, what a shame.
How are your eggs doing tho, they must have hatched by now as it's been a while since I have been on?
Mine - 0 out of 4 success rate, I had to swap broodies as my first bird kept leaving them so guessing they died pretty early on as I did the horrid job of popping them (OMG the smell!) and all 4 had started to form...

Hi Aileen, Doreen is amazingly still alive and seems to be picking up. We couldn't take her to the vet until this Thurs as the vet has been on holiday and I honestly thought she would be dead by then. We kept on lifting her upside down to empty her crop as she kept on drinking all the time. Not even sure if it was sour crop but yesterday when I got home from work she seemed far mor lively and wanted to eat corn.

Sorry to hear about your eggs. I haven't had much luck this year. My lovely chick died and the Fav eggs didn't hatch although when we candled them nearly all of them looked fertile. Don't give up though Aileen as it is soooooo amazing when you see those little bundles of fluff for the first time. :)
