Hi there,I have 4 ex batts and over the summer egg laying has gone downhill.Soft eggs,no shells with the occasional normal egg.I have put this down to moult and age and their previous lives.Yesterday after checking the nest box,this very strange thing was in there.After examining it i cut through the outer layer to reveal not a solid mass but a skin shell with another lump inside.I cut through this and this was solid.The smell was awful and there was evidence of pussy material in the shell bit.Could one of them have passed an ovary out????Or am I barking up the wrong tree.All the girls seem normal.Thanks . Hello, it's what is called a "lash" - a part of the reproductive tract- the hen should be fine given time.

I have also found a few of these from my ex-bats,will they start laying again in time ?

Hi, yes, most should return to lay with no ill effects.
