Not Bumblefoot but what?

Well Jasmine is doing fine. The swelling in her pad has disappeared and a very large scab is sticking out of the side. Think the Neam solution against fungus did the trick. I am keeping a very careful eye on it because when the pad shrinks away more the scab will drop off and might leave an open wound. Have read a bit in this months PP about bumblefoot. I have seen the cheesy cream stuff they talk about before and although this fungal infection looks similar, Jasmine's (and the others) was definately fibrous. And of course the smell was of fungus (athletes foot). I think the problem is a bumblefoot derivative. The pad becomes damaged by nails, glass or perch height impact but then a latent fungus in the soil gets into the wound. They can fight off the bacterial infection, as they are all very healthy, but not the fungus.

Bumble, the other one with a foot problem, also has a big scab sticking out of the bottom of her pad. Her pad has also shrunk away back to normal size and I'll be watching her closely as well.

the calendula cream i mentioned will help keep the skin health and reduce the likelihood of an open wound. for laya we just popped some on non-stick wound pad and vet wrapped it, changed every other day for a week then trimmed away excess dead skin and left alone.

Just an update. Bumble's verruca has healed beautifully. Skin on her pad is a bit thin so she still has a dressing. Jasmine has just had the side errupting dead verruca removed before it tore off and got infection into her leg. Both their pads are very soft with no sign of any growth in there now. Will add though that when I cut off the remainder of the side verruca (ball the size of a 5p piece) there was a big root growing up between her flesh and skin up her leg-about the size of a maggot. I thought it was a maggot at first as it was cream with a point. She squealed when I pulled it out and it shrivelled up after a few minutes in the air. So will continue to keep an eye on her but think she's going to be fine now.
