newspaper for bedding?

Been given tons of newspapers & wondered if they can be used under the straw.I've seen them in used in chicken houses.

Yes, you can use newspaper / shredded newspaper but it isn't very absorbent and will soon spoil.

usefull as a kind of "liner"... as in you can easily empty eg the nest box if lined with newspaper.
I always use it in the rabbit & guinea pig hutches.

do you use straw as the sole bedding for your chickens? just that it can harbour mites....
