Calling all poultry experts:
In preparation for getting my first hens, I've just cleaned out my (new to me) second-hand midi Dingle, which has been empty for several weeks, & found lots of small blackish specks inside, each about the size of the thickness of a human hair & no more than 1mm long. Are they likely to be dead or dormant red mite (or something else) and do I need to worry about them?
I've cleaned out the coop with a whole 750ml Total Mite Kill RTU spray (the opaque pink stuff), but ran out (got a bit carried away??) before I'd done the outside. Is this the best stuff to be cleaning the coop with, & should I get another bottle to clean the outside & have another go at the inside?
What do people recommend for the physical cleaning? I used an old car windscreen ice scraper to de-poo the pearches, together with a damp j-cloth & elbow grease. Should that be OK?
At this rate the coop will be cleaner than my house...
