Near miss with the cockerels

I moved Rolo, my intended young speckled sussex bantam cockerel into an enclosed pen with young ladies yesterday. All looked fine and I went out for the day to find both Rolo and Clement (brown sussex) in the adjoining pen in a completely dazed state with blood all over their faces. Could they have done all this just by fighting through the fencing? Or did one somehow fly out and fly back again - although both looked far too weak for this. I had to do rehydration therapy with Avipro 'critical care' powder on Rolo. He was just standing with his beak open. I'm finding there is an awful lot to learn about keeping cockerels.

More than likely done through the fencing chickenfan. Often they can cut their combs on the fencing itself trying to peck through and just one cut can produce quite a lot of blood which looks a lot worse than it is.

Very worrying as one would not have survived without rehydration techniques.

Is it possible to screen the fence so they can't see each other. Or would they go berserk anyway, knowing that there's another rooster there?
