nature notes

This might sound like a forced jest but I kid you not it’s true.

About six months ago a neighbour of mine told me that he’d just attained a post graduate diploma for an in depth study of Kraftwerk. He was singularly unimpressed when I asked him if he was interested in basket weaving.

I may have said this before sometime, but Defra's Magic Map is very interesting.

That is interesting rick. It was great to see our island in a box of protected sea.
I must admit I didn’t know that this had happened though there was talk of it being planned some years ago to protect a colony of some rare creature called a horse whelk. I’ve just looked it up on Google and a fearsome creature it is, by snail standards!

Never heard of those before this post. bit of a beastie.

Loved this pic, presume these get a bunch of nettles instead of a tea or coffee. Social distancing as well

Thought this was a fantastic pic from Welsh river authority, of the Welsh river system

That explains all the rain they get, needs a lot to keep that river system topped up.
How about this pic, taken by someone who rescued a Gannet that was caught up in plastic from multipack cans and other bits of plastic. how beautiful is that eye ?
Gannet made a full recovery you will be pleased to know

Few moths from last night. The Chinese character was so tiny and looked just like a bird dropping on top of the moth trap, We nearly just left it thinking it was.

Gannet's eye is beautiful! Its like the sky has been caught in it (poetically!)
Been trying to learn birdsong better and have discovered that displaying audio as 'sonograms' is very easy in Audacity (probably also in other audio editing apps) just by switching the display from 'waveform' to 'spectrograph.'
This bird was singing merrily in the field next to the Rollright Stones when we went there for a visit a few days ago. No idea so far what it was but working on it.

Would really like to hear a puffin for real (along with many others in the weird and wonderful category!)

That looks good Rick, good luck with ID
There is a great site Xeno Canto which has worldwide birdsong on it, which can be useful for listening to all the calls of birds.
Do let us know what the bird is
