My Pekin chicks

Here are a few piccies of my little Pekin chicks, they don't have individual names yet but are affectionally known as the nuggets!
I have them a week now and was told they were 4 weeks old when I got them so does 5 weeks look about the right age? only I have seen pics of some chicks that look as if they are more feathered at this age.

When is it ok to put them outside in their coop? they seem way too tiny to go outside at the mo, although they enjoy going out in their run when the weather is nice. They still come in to watch tv at night :smile:

I have a feeling that the black one with more mottling may be a cockeral as his wattles seem a bit bigger than the others, the tail feathers are also quite slow growing compared to the others, any ideas on the sex?

The first one is definately a boy I'm sorry to say, unless of course you want a boy then I'm not sorry to say 07

They would be ok out side all the time once they are fully feathered, this time of year there is not usually any dramatic drop in temperature and wet tends to do them more harm than cold once they are out, so make sure they are sheltered from any inclement weather.

They are lovely; I think they look right for 4 weeks. As previously said the dark one is a boy (boys are usually slower to feather up).

I thought he was looking all boy, I don't really mind it's whether or not the neighbours will though :? so we'll have to see how we go. Also as far as I know all the chicks have the same father but different mothers, would this be a problem if ever I wanted to hatch any eggs?

Hi Angel Pie, It should be OK to breed on from half sibs unless a genetic defect shows up. You can usually even breed from full sibs. though it is not recommended that you breed on from their offspring.

They are lovely! I think they are best inside watching telly for a couple more weeks yet they are tiny as you say and not yet feathered up - not worth risking those adorable babies! Ros
