Hi all
we have approx 25 lovely ladies and have introduced 3 leghorns to our flock. We have managed to persuade 2 of the newbies into the big house where the others all perch and sleep but we have one really stubborn girl who hides in the trees somewhere and sleeps there. We have tried to find her and actually physically put her into the house which we managed tge first night but since then we can't reach her to put her in!! I am worried that when it gets cold she will freeze outside on her own without the warmth of the other girls! The two that perch in the big house seem to have integrated alot better than the stubborn one also and just wondered if anyone had any ideas? Should we leave her to go in will she eventually follow the others in!? Any ideas most appreciated.
Thanks everyone

I know its hardly the same situation but this might reassure you....

we have a right mix of hens in the "big shed" which has an attached run to keep out mr fox.

the 2 BC Marans and 2 LSussex had never gone into the shed at night, but happily go in to feed and drink. The Derbyshire Redcaps who are 2 months older stayed out with them til about September, the littlest ones (A variety of marans, welsummers, plymouth barred rocks, and a Naked Neck) have always slept in.

After a week of either torrential rain, high winds and an occassional frost, the BCMs and LSs have decided winter is here and life is much better if you're with friends, warm and dry!!

maybe a bit of bad weather and a lack of leaves might persuade your girl in?!

can you not try getting her first and placing her in a dog crate or something similar in the main house so she gets used to the idea its not proper winter yet and my girls like the horses cant wait to go to bed especially my ex batts .

Thanks so much for all the advice. We have finally managed to persuade her that the house is better than the trees!!! After many scratches night after night physically putting her into the house we went to check last night and she was in the house with all of her friends.... Thankfully as it has gone so cold!!! I think she is just a very stubborn girl!!! Thanks again
