Looking out of the sitting room window y'day morning, I very nearly fell off the sofa in surprise 07
My quartet of silkies, the fussiest chooks I have ever come across, tucking into leftover pilau rice & naan bread from a friday night takeaway
Just thought I'd try it out as some left over cous cous went down a treat a few weeks ago! Although the chooks don't really like their fruit & veg, it seems they will now accept other treats from time to time
Apples, cut into segments, they can smell it getting cut up and go frantic. My hens would not eat any of the cabbage family, but I started cutting it into "worm" sized pieces and they would eat it, just.
Just keep trying different things, they may get to like some. Just like kids.
Have you tried cooking them? I found that with my Rhodies they will only eat pot skins, cabbage if boiled for 10 mins first, they leave carrot skins. Fussy little things.
LOL
"My hens aren't laying at the moment" "Have you tried cooking them?" love it.
Seriously yes people 'in the good old days' always used to boil up vegetable peelings. Potatoes and carrots are particularly good. I wouldn't give carrot tops. Or rhubarb leaves! But have you tried grass? Go out with the shears. Cut a swathe of grass (not mowings). If chicken are on grass they don't usually need other greens.
