Hi after posting on here the other day for the first time I have had my first Egg, my marsh Daisy alerted me with a strange sqwark and i immediately investigated and there it was. Small but perfectly formed.
I was wondering if its still ok to eat the eggs even though a cockeril is present, i assume that he may have fertilised it.
And how long can i keep eggs before they go off. Do i needto refrigerate them or keep them out.
Many thanks :)

Lovely isn't it, I still get a thrill collecting the eggs even though mine have been laying for a year now.

It's fine to eat even if the rooster has done his thing. I guess most of my eggs are fertile as I have a fertile and enthusiastic rooster with mine. The chick won't develop in the egg unless it's incubated so the egg is the same as an unfertilised one if you collect daily.

I keep my eggs at room temperature and have kept for at least 3 weeks like that a few times although I usually eat them before that. I'm sure I've read that supermarket eggs are about 5 weeks old by the time they get to the consumer.

Hi there,

Eggs will keep for a month apparently in a cool place, pointy end down. I keep mine in the fridge because I haven't got anywhere else but not everyone does. I write the date in pencil on them so I know when they were laid.

Happy egg cooking!!

Thanks for advice. Cant wait to see if she produces daily from now on... :o
