Got my very, very first eggs yesterday safe and sound and after much re-reading and help have got them in the incy!!! Keeping fingers crossed that all is well and got to be patient ( :o ) for a few days until I can candle them. At least when I do it again I will know what to do and what to expect so will be much kinder on the poor old nerves.

Hi Anne, really pleased for you. What type of eggs are you incubating?

Thankyou all - hatching silkie X pekin. Keep looking at them in the incy and making sure it working ok - not that I'm neurotic or anything  Mind you it's difficult not to - it's about 12" away from me - beside the computer as it's the part of the room with no windows or radiators so a more stable temp.

LOL,yes, you're a neurotic mum again. My incy is upstairs out the way,so I'm not constantly fretting.Just have to remember to go up and turn them.

Good luck with the eggs!

Pekin Silkie cross? They're going to be interesting looking birds!

I'm hoping to get some eggs going in Spring so I'll be looking for tips soon

Osric

good luck anne pekin x silkie are supposed to be gorgeous and i was told they make great broodies too

Thankyou - Yes - I think they will be little characters.

Hi Anne,
We'll all be holding our breath for the next three weeks! Don't fret, I'm sure you'll be fine.
All the best.

Broadway Bantams sells hatching silkie/pekin eggs, she calls them Pilkies.

Aha! Pilkies they are then - please God ! Will candle them monday or tuesday and pray they ok - off I go again

Pilkies do take time.....21 days usually.Have you magnasexed them yet Anne? That will tell you if they are fertile, and, how many boys, girls etc.

Had a dream last night that they had Ros - but instead of 8 eggs there were so many they could hardly fit in! Funny the things we dream  Funny you should say that Lydia - I did use the magnasexer - it said I had 3 definite boys, 3 definite girls, 1 not sure and 1 didn't do much at all. Will be interesting won't it ? Pity I will have to wait so ****** long to find out

Well that's good, the time will fly by.It is exciting though, and candling and seeing them is lovely.I could sit there all day candling mine and talking to them.
Does anybody else talk to their eggs???? or am I just weird :? ,actually, don't answer that  .

Good luck! I think the first hatch is the worst but you still count down the days no matter how many you've done- I think it's worse than being pregnant and I have 3 kids ;) Let us know how you get on- I've got some hopefully going in next week - Can't wait!
