Mites

i still find red mites in my big wooden house but none in my other 2 coops yet and i check daily , i use royal mail plastic post boxes for nest boxes and as mentioned before the mites adore these as they have little crevices in and these are checked every morning at about 5,45 am most the time i might find 4 - 10 but for the past 3 days i havent found and even on the walls i dont find any and the perches dont actully touch the walls of the house so they are very very easy to keep clean and powered , but on thursday the whole house is being taking apart to make it into 1 4'4 house and the other section is going to be left until i can get another sheet of ply to make another sperate 4'4 house as my runs are going to be getting split in half shortly but i do beleive that once you get struck once by mites then thats it you will always get them at some point in the future . thing is i do get just that bit to paranoid at times i have even put dense vaseline into all my seams to block of as many hiding places as i can bet yet still find them but as long as i dont ever ever get another mass invasion as i did a few years ago then i think i can cope .
also i used those large plastic garden storage sheds as hen houses last year and they got red mite badly but good thing with those is they only take about 10 mins to completely pull apart and clean part of me wants to go back to using them :-)05 but i have lost half the little pegs that keep the doors in place    actullly they may be buried in the run somewhere .

re creosote, dont get the stuff from creosote direct as its not the proper stuff, its really thin and watery despite advertising as 100% creosote, im sure it treats the wood like proper creosote does but not sure if it will kill redmite, i got mine creosote sales as previously mentioned http://www.creosotesales.co.uk/ and its the proper thick stuff. did the shed and run with it and am hoping that will help deter redmite! will put down some drinking straws tho to check as having done cleanout in broiler breeder sheds smothered with the things and being covered from head to foot for hours on end im a little OCD about them lol
