marigold petals querie

hi all i have my hens on a good grass area all the time they get decent quality layers ect but fancy trying them on some marigold petals to get nice deep orange yokes , i have tryed sprinkling in with layers but wont eat also on floor still wont eat is there any tips on how you guys feed them too hens like can i add to water at all thanks ste

Like you, I’ve tried sprinkling marigold petals in their food and it has been met with disdain, so I guess they just don’t like them unless camouflaged in a processed food.
Some good quality brands of layers pellets include marigold petals rather than chemical colourants, so you could try Dodson&Horrell or others - just look at the ingredients list.
 
Knowing chickens, I'd say if you made yourself a lovely flowerbed and planted marigolds in it, then talked in the chickens' hearing about how you really hoped the chickens wouldn't destroy the bed and eat the marigolds - then you could stand back so you don't get crushed in the chicken stampede to get the marigolds!
