sorry about the pic quality and has anyone got any idea on sex?
i think its male but not sure

cheers

Looks like it could be cuckoo Marans but legs should be white, does it have a head spot and is that feint barring on its wings? if it is then I would say girl.

If it a Marans, it could be a "regular" copper black. The odd white primary feather are a common fault (for showing - has no bearing on laying ;) )

It is possible to have clean shanks - it is a disqualifying fault.

I have a black Marans pullet with minimal leg feathering - I couldn't put her on the show bench even though she is a very good "type" in general.

ok cheers for that :)

i have two they both look the same but the other one has got less white on its chest but its got more feathers and has got barring and none of them have white spots on there heads but i heard that if they have white spots then they are male is this true..??

i put these pics on another forum too in the maran section and someone said that the leg colour is right and a few pics ive seen have the same legs and i didnt kno they had feathers on the legs ive never seen one with feathery legs i know a few french breeds have feathered legs but i thought the maran was breed not to?

The cuckoo girls still have a head spot but its usually smaller and fainter.
Cuckoo Marans (English) don't have feathered legs and the standard calls for white legs or so I thought, French Marans do or should have feathered legs.
