Hello
A few days ago my husband and I found 2 abandoned ducklings. They were in a strange place, fairly high up on a mountain with no ponds nearby and no sign of any other ducks so we have no idea how they got there. We decided to bring them home as they were so vulnerable and would have surely been eaten. We live in a small flat with very little outdoor space. We kept the little ducklings in a large box with plenty of food and bedding and made sure they were warm enough. The plan was to keep them as long as we were able to and then give them to a friend who has some land. They were doing great, really playful and happy and would fall asleep in our arms. We became quite attached to them very quickly. But when we got home yesterday after leaving them for a couple of hours, one of the ducklings had died
. So now we don't know what to do with the remaining one. We would love to keep it and look after it for as long as we can but I understand that they get lonely. Would the kindest thing be to give him to an animal sanctuary were he'll have company? I feel so awful because the duckling recognises us as its parents and follows us around everywhere, enjoys being played with and cuddled to sleep. I would love to get a couple more chicks to keep it company but we just don't have the space for them when they get big. I don't know much about duck breeds but from researching pictures on the Internet, I think its a rouen.
Please help. What would be the kindest thing to do?
