Just to say Hi !

I just thought I'd say hi and introduce myself. I've been keeping chickens for a year now and loving it. I have four girls, Fleur(orpington), Penny (Speckeldy) Mary (Heritage Skyline) and Winnie (Wyandotte).
We moved to the suffolk countryside 2 years ago and last April decded to get some chickens(as you do!)
Last summer three of our girls went broody together. We got 12 hatching eggs which were divided between them. 8 hatched and of those we got 3 girls and 5 boys. We found lovely new homes for all of them.
This year I am hoping to get some cream Legbar eggs and will certainly keep one this time .
I often need advise and find this forum very useful so thought I'd sign up.

Hi Bev and welcome to the forum. I used to work in Felixstowe many years ago. Lucky to find homes for your boys. We only manage to find homes for the very best of the bunch, about 20% generally.

Thanks for your welcome. We were very lucky with the boys. Hoping for Cream Legbars this year so at least we'll know from day one what sexes we have.

Hi Bev and welcome. I have a Cream Legbar and she's a very beautiful bird, intelligent and tame as well. I got her and her friend, a Buff Sussex, when they were chicks so I knew they would be girls.

Thanks Marigold. I have a Skyline and just love the crest (she always looks like she's having a bad hair day) so wanted something similar. I then met someone with a Cream Legbar and decided that was the hen for me! I'm just waiting for one of my girls to go broody and i'll be dashing off to get eggs. I have posted re CLB eggs but haven't heard anything yet so fingers crossed
