It's so hot...

Very nice, hope you have put up pool etiquette rules, no diving, no skinny dipping, no pushing your friend in.
Ours have been lying in sand holes they have made

My giant Lt Sussex has just started to have chicks hatch under her today, sitting on 14 eggs!. Imagine how hot and tired she must be after 3 weeks.

Mind you, always somebody somewhere else worse off from the weather, those forest fires in Portugal are absolutely horrendous.

Yes they are, we are in shock watching the images, especially the burned out cars, imagining the worst for all those poor people, and it coming straight after Grenfell Tower. It's 30 miles or so from us, we have to drive along the main road later this week, assuming it's open. We have seen fires here, but this is much worse, happening at night, I have to rein in my imagination.

For a a year or more we seriously considered moving to the Figueiro dos Vinhos/Pedrogao Grande area, it's lovely country up there, such a shame. Let's hope they get it under control soon as it seem several villages are still in danger.

Just after I wrote the above post our views have disappeared, the smoke is drifting soon we won't be able see very much at all.....it's only 32 but hot, heavy, humid, the wind is getting up and thunder rumbles. The light is diminishing and It is quite scary. how many fluff balls have you got?

You be careful Mrs B!, 30 miles isn't so far if the wind gets up, remember that it's always better safe than sorry. Can only hear cheeping so far, and haven't wanted to disturb the nest too much. I always thought you were in the Algarve, are you on a trip up country?

No, we live here part time, 30 miles east of PG and FdV. As you know, it's beautiful, remote, hot, dangerous but unspoilt, real and full of the nicest people you could hope to meet :D We have our papers and a few clothes packed, just in case....

Had a quick look at my posts and I know where I got that idea from now. I mentioned we'd looked in Alentejo, (which we also had) and found it too hot and you recommended the Algarve, so I put 2 and 2 together and got 5!, doh!!. East of FDV and PG is getting very remote but as you say very beautiful. We used to stay in a tiny little place in the hills north of Ansiao when we came out scouting, was a deserted village that had been converted into lets. Good that your prepared, hope it doesn't come to that but stay safe.

We nearly ended up near Ansiao, but we marginally prefer the landscape over here, we have more schist. The fire is moving this way very slowly, it's in our district now. The light is very weird, we can't see the village which is 1km away, it smells of smoke, and I don't think much sleep will be had, although I am sure we will be OK.

Is there a local alert network? At least you seem to have a good internet connection to find out whats happening.

Hope everything went ok last night and things are looking better this morning. Nothing extra in the news here about what is going on.

Well the smoke has cleared, although the fire is still going strong, they have 1100 firefighters now, compared to the 700 at the start of yesterday. We are being vigilant, but should be OK as its still a long way away and we would have time to leave. I slept pretty well last night considering, tho very hot.

We are fortunate that the Internet is still working, it is quite flaky when we have adverse weather. We are following the fire incident site, the local news, and the weather station. Sorry for hijacking your thread Rick, I trust your ladies enjoyed their pool!

31.8 shade reading here in Hampshire, and its only 11.00. We got up early and took the dog out and I did a bit of painting before packing it in at 10.00. We have an air-con unit in our bedroom, which we hardly ever use, but retire to when needed, like now - bliss. Our solar panels are working overtime making free power, so on balance I don't feel too bad about using electricity for the air-con. The over-70s are always urged to run the heating to keep warm in winter, so I suppose the reverse applies in summer!
So glad you feel safe for the moment, Mrs.B. Please keep us posted.

Glad to hear you're ok Mrs B. Our internet is flaky in bad weather too, and we only live 40 miles from London.

The air con has gone in the car, had a 45 minute drive to my dentists this morning, on the way back I was dripping sweat (I know, none of you wanted to know that), god knows how hot it was in the old tin can but it felt beautiful by comparison when I got out into glaring sunshine. We don't do hot very well in this country do we. I do envy you today Hen-Gen.

Anyone live in London, or live or travel to work in any big Southern city? The heatwave itself must be adding to the stress and problems for many in London, I feel.

Mrs Dinosaw drives into Ealing four times a week, fortunately for her, her air con does work. In London on Thursday, not looking forward to it, I try to avoid the tube as much as I can, that really is the pits on days like these.
