Hi there I have a pure white Sussex. We have had her for 12 months, since we have had her she has had no feathers around her bum or vent. Recently she has had a smelly white discharge around the vent. We have now noticed a solid donut shape mass above the vent on her backend, like I said this is not at the vent but above it near the lower back area.

She eats well and has good quality food, she has supplements in her food and water and yogurt once a month. Any ideas what this could be. I think it may be vent fleet but not 100%. I will post pictures later if this will help. Thanks

Sounds like some kind of internal infection leaking from the vent Steshort1973. The solid mass may be an internal cyst? which is infected. Definitely a trip to the vets is needed. We had something posted like this a few weeks ago but I can't find it.

We have had hens with no feathers on the rear end and red skin after being regularly trodden by a cockerel. Think it is some kind of reaction to semen which we successfully treated with Vaseline.

Ok thanks for that. I have tried to post pictures here but for some reason they are not loading.

Pictures are probably too big. You need to shrink them down - you should also see red text explaining what the problem is. There is a post pinned to the top of the threads on here somewhere (maybe photo section) that should help you upload them.
