is she broody??

You can make one by having a 40 watt bulb on a holder. Then make a tube to go over it out of metal or even cardboard about 8 inches high. Finally put a lid on it made of cardboard with a hole cut out which will be big enough to hold the egg. Tape the lid on to stop any light coming through. Check them in a room as dark as possible. If they are fertile you will not be able to see through parts of the egg and there will be a dark blob. An infertile egg is completely seethrough. Good luck............Hope you have some littleuns in there.

Ive never tried candling under a broody, IME they have usually kicked out any infertile eggs. Though am useless at candling any way

It's useful to candle eggs under broodies if there are two or more as if there are enough eggs infertile, you can swap the eggs around to release up a hen for another clutch.
This assumes that all broodies were set on the same day.

Argh! This is driving me demented!!!
Right, we are on day 21 today.... broody still sitting tight.
I stole a couple of eggs from underneath her when she was out doing her daily mega poop and had another bash at candling, only I used a bare 60w bulb (all I had to hand) and after a few "erm I think so" and "oh, maybe not" my hubby got fed up listening and "suggested" that I look at one of my fresh laid unfertile aggs and bada bing bada boom it was very different..
I am now paranoid that I may have cooked or injured said chicks in eggs - I was very conscious that the bulb was warm so not to hold directly on or for too long but I didn't see any movement at all from inside of them?
Could they just be a few days late as my first broody kept going walkabout and letting the eggs get cool... how many day over should I give them as i think that there is def something in those darn eggs!

I would leave them for at least another 3/4 days as you have nothing to lose. It could be that they are delayed as they got a little cold but I would definitely just leave them alone now for a few days.
Good luck...........I have 9 eggs from Dorinda (Faverolle banties) that are due to hatch in 10 days, fingers crossed :D

Too late to fiddle any more at this stage ! Give her another couple of days. You're sure about the dates ?
