Good morning,

Please can anybody tell me whether laburnam is poisonous to chickens?

Some of the "human" websites I have beeen looking at say that although not good for people laburnam is not really very poisonous.

I have had a laburnam tree in the garden for over 3o years and the chickens often roam free and I have not had any problems with the chickens but the tree has died.

I want to plant a new one and the obbvious place is near the chicken run.

Regards, Wiulliam

Hi William,
I was looking up plants poisonous to chooks just the other day and it said that Laburnam seeds are poisonous to chickens. However I also think that they are quite good at avoiding eating stuff that is no good for them. Maybe planting it directly over the run would not be the best thing to do though.

Laburnum is listed as poisonous. Probably eaten in small amounts, you might get away with it but I wouldn't risk it.

Thank you both for your comments. I think I'll have to find another place for the tree (or the run).

I have a laburnum and yew in my garden. The hens tend to leave them alone but I don't put their water under the laburnum in case anything is absorbed.
