Introducing new girls to our single ex-batt

Hi Rick,

Yeah I think Pepper is similar - she doesnt crouch like the other 2 and will hop out of reach, although she is happy to get in my way/under my feet if I'm digging or tending the garden, so I know she's not afraid of me or anything. Your girl who likes to be held in cupped hands sounds like Maggie. I can pick her up like that easily, and if I set her on my lap she settles down for a nap! Rosie is fine most of the time too - although sometimes she protests and I leave her be. I guess Pepper is, at least, safe and protected so I shouldn't really worry about not being able to pick her up - as long as I can do it when I need to, (like when I clipped her wings) that's fine! :)

Thanks for the advice on the waterer. I'm currently looking at all the options and will probably install something new when we extend the coop (hopefully in the next month or 2) For now, I've added a second waterer and put it under the ramp, against the fence wall, which seems to be holding up fine. (although its a pain to re-fill, tucked away as it is!)

Gemma

So sorry to hear you lost Gracie. I'm just back from the vets where I had to say goodbye to Gert - my gorgeous two year old ginger chook. I've just buried her and whilst I'm sad about her passing I don't want her sister, Dolly, to be on her own too long so I'm going Friday to get a new sister for her.

Given I'm only getting one will I have the same issues

CJ2512 - I'm sorry to hear about Gert. What happened to her? 2 years is quite young. good luck with the new sister for Dolly though! Its not much fun in the beginning, and I was convinced that Maggie just didn't play well with others - but the three are very happy together now so it does all work out eventually! :)
