Hi we started off with 7 silver sussex eggs and are now down to 2 eggs this is our first time using an incubator , we candled for the last time yesterday at day 16, one is wriggling about in the egg but the other egg i couldn`t tell if there was movement or not, could i have caught it at a lazy time or should i be worried, thanks. :)

Hi, don't be worried at all, I just hatched 20 chickens and could only see movement in one which was my bantie egg. Even my previous hatch I didn't see any move when candling! For me I candle at 10 days and if it is completely black I know that it's very likely that it is still viable and then leave it until hatch time if it hasn't hatched after day 23/24 I discard them. When it comes to hatch time, when they pip don't be worried on how long it takes to hatch as they can take up to 48 hours and for the first 12 or so you won't see them do much at all, just wanted to let you know as I know many people worry about it taking too long and not wanting to lose the chick. Hope this helps and good luck! :-)

Thanks for the info nice just to put my mind at rest and await the outcome of my little chicks, was starting to think it might have died but i`ll leave it alone and what will be will be, thanks again

An egg if in an incy or especialy under a broody should be left alone as much as your hands will let you - good luck with your hatching - look forward to seeing pikkis of the newborn chicks :D
