Hi

I am looking everywhere for some Ancona Duck hatching eggs.
I've not found any in the UK at all but there are a number of breeders in the states, some of whom Ive contacted and are looking into it for me form that side...

I've read that it is possible to import eggs, I'd only want 6-12, but that I'd need to check with Defra?

Does anyone do this/know exactly what I need to do?

Thank you :-)17

All the paperwork has to be completed by the exporter Scramble using a specialist export vet. The parents must be blood tested and the flock isolated. You may find that it is far too complex and expensive for a small quantity of eggs. Moving hatching eggs that far may not be practical with regard to incubation results. You would need a minimum of a dozen and someone would need to fly them in with their hand luggage.

Have you tried looking for English breeders in France?

If you contact Chris Ashton at ashtonwaterfowl.net, she will know if there are any breeders in the UK.

If not, I would make contact with a waterfowl breeder in the US who is registered and currently sends eggs abroad - Metzerfarms is one I have been in contact with in the past.

This link explains a little more what they do.

You will then need to get the import paperwork in order with DEFRA - their website is a good starting place to get confused, or just give them a call or drop them an email to find out exactly what you need to do. Make sure you highlight the number of eggs and the fact it is for hobby birds, not commercial.

Good luck,

Tim
