Gawd what a journey of information this has been for me, and I'm certainly learning about my chicken breeds =)

Unless Anabelle is a silkie cross, she could be an Appenzeller spitzhauben, a Sultan or a Brabanter. It seems she can't be a Pavlovski after all as it says that they have been wiped out.

There were 3 of them at my friends, so maybe the last 3! *lol* ;)
 
She's a lovely rich chestnut colour though Pavlor Very pretty! In fact its such a rich colour I hope she doesn't turn out to be a he! If she is female she would be a good bird to breed from.

When will I know if she's in fact a "he"?

Yes, I find her really pretty and chose her from a trio. Have no idea what she is or how old she is ...

Well, I got Anabelle from a friend who has poultry, and she said that the woman where she had got Anabelle said they were "padua". I looked up padua on the net and it directed me to Polish chickens, and after reviewing the pictures of Polish, I doubt Anabelle is one =/
 
So I have some more info on Anabelle...

Apparently, her father's a Polish bantam and her mother is a Polish bantam cross. The cross bit is bit of a mystery.

She's on my lap at the moment so it's quite difficult to type.

The crowing only happens when she's by herself in her cage and wants to come out, and I read that sometimes, when hens don't have a roosters, they may crow to establish alphahen status. And it's a really half-hearted crow =/ I don't know... Maybe I'm in denial as I really don't want her to be a rooster!
 
Just by way of a PS to this topic, I have 3 Pavlovskaja hens and four Pavlovskaja cockerels and the breed does not appear to be extinct. Though whether the current strain is rescued from a surviving cock or a cunning Russian re-creation is another matter.
But they are fun.
