i have a dilemma

i have 2 boys that i am trying to get rid of well i have found them a home at a stable yard i know and they can go friday so i called the council to say that in case any one moans then to tell them not to worry as the boys are going friday well this afternoon when i was doing the girls one of the old italian guys came up to me and asked which birds were crowing and i showed him and he was so so happy to hear them every morning , hes been very ill but since hearing the boys he says it has made him feel happier and more perky but when i said they were going friday in case any one moans he swore and was not happy about that at all then mentioned that he would happily have them in his garden which is only 2 gardens away from the run { i would be happy wiht that } but 2 cockerals wouldnt be able to live together without hens would they ?? .
anyways the council seem happy for me to keep them as long as no one complains i think and the council woman did mention that she was over there last week and never heard them also so far everyone is happy for me to keep them as people i have spoken to reckon they have not heard them but yet i can hear them in my house but only if i have the windows are open so are they just being polite with me or what ?? i just dont kow what road to take :lol: :lol:
 
What a lovely story! Great to hear, after so many horror stories about nasty neighbours complaining. Are these your beautiful Polands? I haven't any experience of keeping two cockerels but I think I have read that two together might actually be OK if they didn't have any hens to compete over. Maybe more experienced people could advise you about that. At least you know that they know each other and are OK together at the moment, it's not as if you planned to introduce a new one who might not get on. Of course at this time of year cockerels aren't much of a problem because they don't crow very early on the dark mornings, especially after the clocks go back on Sunday. Actually, if nobody minds about them, you might be able to keep them yourself, at least for as long as there are no problems.
However you have a responsibility to find them a good home if you can't keep them, and you would have to feel sure the old man was actually able to care for them properly. Has he any experience with chickens, or any equipment? Would you be prepared to take them back, or go round to care for them, if he got too ill again to look after them?
 
if he was to take them then yes he would look after them hes from italy and they all { 3 lots of the same family living all next door to each other } had birds when growing up on the old fashioned farms thats why they love to see my girls and have the eggs . but if for any reasons he wasnt able to look after them then yes i would take them back, my firend at the stables wont really mind if he has them this week or whenever thing is there i know they would have great care as the stable kids would fall head over heals in love with them and spoil them rotten .
 
That would be great if this guy would take care of them.Another bonus I see.If you would need cockrel to make more babies you can always borrow from him.Think a bout it. :-)08
 
i need to go see the garden etc as he said he would happily let them live in his shed but of course they cant stay in there full time so if he did take them on i would be happy to help him look after them and make a run etc , i'll go see him tomorrow .i have already told the council perosn that my boys will be going friday in case someone complained between now and the end of the week then she could tell them that they wont be there long but now do i call her and say that i kinda have a probelm as literally everyone wants me to keep them which is true but with that it concerns me as they do crow at 6 am which is a bit early :-)05 :-)05 why do these things happen to me :lol:
 
Hey Karminski, if you didn't have all these problems you would get bored and could even turn into a TV vegetable. I think Dinky and Donky are lovely.
 
Two males will can live in harmony for months, even years and then suddenly kick off and start to fight. After this, it becomes difficult as you never know when it will happen again and they can kill one another. This applies whether they are with hens or not and is also more likely to occur if they are moved to a new home.
 
ohh guys i am stuck completely i just dont know what to do , someone has contacted me on preloved to have dinky whos the gold laced one but idealy i would like them to be homed together , i'll call the person and see if they will take both but if they go to my friend i can go see them whenever i want as i can get my horse feed from him.

i would imagine it would be quite difficult to find someone who would take them both and if they did, the problems Chuck describes would possibly happen anyway. Maybe if you found a home for the Gold one it would be a bit easier to decide what to do about the other one - either keep him with your hens on his own, which would be ideal, or rehome him, preferably with some girls of his own?

There is a Facebook group set up to re-home cockerels. I know it won't help you make-up your mind about what to do but it will give you another option

someone has contacted me via preloved to re home the gold laced bird i could probably get a way with keeping one cockeral ,i'll call my friend at the stables to see if he has housing for them first .
 
omg i called the guy from preloved and he was indian and did not have a clue about chickens he just thinks that sticking my little bantam with his 2 big girls would be ok personally i dont think it is so i will just let my friend at the stables have them and then he can deal with the probs :lol: or maybe he could have just one of them think thats the prob sorted .

lol when i was still breeding Bengals, I was warned to never ever use Preloved. there are some serious idiots, wackos and fakes on there!
 
hes meant to be calling back tonight but i will just tell him i have decided to keep them :lol: that should put him of . i'll be dropping the boys of 9 am friday morning i personally think they will be happy but of course i will miss them and worry but thats just me :-)07 i have never ever given an animal away until i started out with chickens and the first ever 2 i hatched went to someone from this site and wow did they go to chickenham palace or what that made me really happy and the new owners were of course .in furute i am sticking with ex batts cant go far wrong with them :lol: :lol: if my broody wants babies next year then tough on her :-)06 i cant go though this year after year
 
If you can find good homes for them, you should be glad. There's no point in keeping them together for the sake of it. If they go together then start to fight, someone else will have to clear up the mess which is really your responsibility.
 
Agree with Chuck, find one of them a good home, the crowing will be reduced, no risk of fighting and the lad will keep the girls in tow! :D
 
its not long now as they are both going in the morning , i went to a friends house this afternoon to drop of her eggs { mum forgot to tell me shes already had them } and i heard them from her house which means that other people would be able to hear them around the site suppose though it just depends on the wind etc so it wont be long before someone does complain so even if i kept one i would have to home him in the end might as well let both go to the same place and be done with it of course though i am going to miss them like crazy .
 
so if i decided to keep donkey { the white crested boy as hes quieter } would he be ok to mate with my little bantams and if he did what sort of chick would i get :-)05 but of course i dont want to be dealing with chicks tell next spring .
ohhhhhhhhhh i hate keeping chickens its stressfull
 
I really would be reluctant to suggest this Looby, by all means try the young fellow with your hens it won't be problem but if you want to hatch more then the odds of finding decent homes for the resultant boys are very, very low.. :(
Consider buying good quality pure bred hatching eggs from a reputable buyer if you really want to try again ;)
