Hi all. We have a secret massive egg layer!!!! We aquired another 11 birds a couple of months ago to take our total 26 and every couple of days we get a huge egg!!!! And I mean huge!!! It's double the size of a normal egg and we have no idea who is laying it but today it was very light nearly White with a pink sheen although most days it's just light brown with a kind of pink tinge. We have 2 leghorns that lay White eggs but we had 2 White ones too so it's not them. It seems to be since we got a salmon favourelle do they lay big eggs?? We got 3 pol light Sussex which seem to be laying and 3 warreners also 2 hybrids kind of a red colour and we have a very very old rhode island red. So these are the new girls any ideas if any of them are known for big eggs would be delighted to hear from you.

My hens normally start to lay really large eggs just before they stop laying for the winter then in the spring the eggs start off being smaller until they get to the regular size.

i had one egg from my white leghorns the other day that was so big the box would not shut :D but yesterday i had a wind egg it was really tiny , some say they lay those at the start of lay but others say they are formed when the bird finishings laying but at the mo i only have about 6 - 8 birds laying out of 20 as they are all moulting so i could not tell you laided it .

Ii ocasionally get a big egg off my cross bred silkies. but i don't think it is anything to worry about.

Faverolles lay a medium sized tinted egg, not large, although they are slightly bigger in their second laying season. Keep a close eye on the faverolles, make sure she is not fat as faverolles do like their food!
