the only picture I have of my own is where its covered in snow!

the base is on slabs so mr fox & the bloomin' rats cant get in ....
:)

im going to demolish ma garden and make 1 big run if am allowed.

When I kept Chinese painted Quail as a teenager, I kept them in an aviary. This was made from 'panels' of wire mesh (the small rectangular mesh) screwed together and placed on a concrete base (again to stop predators).

The only problem I had was when they sat on eggs one summer and hatched youngsters, they were so small (about the size of a bumble bee or so it seemed) they squeezed through the (very small) wire and got stuck outside of the aviary, got wet and almost died.

I can remember taking this tiny little bumble bee sized baby and holding it in the palm of my hand, almost in tears and then as if by magic, the warmth from my hand revived this little thing and within 15 minutes it was dry and on its feet again... :D

I also remember holding an adult outside of the aviary and she suddenly decided to take off and she flew vertically up into the air and off over the hedge into the field.... I searched and searched but never found her.

So I guess I learned not to take them outside without a box.

Anyway, I'm getting off topic here...

Hi Tim, and everyone :) Do you know if it is practicle to clip Quail wings to prevent the above ? I'm thinking of Quail also and have a 2m X 2m area that has chicken/rabbit wire up to 2 meters (Corrugated iron lined and dug in) and a light garden mesh cover. (I'd have to do some fine tuning at ground level & housing) imho this might do for adults..... :-)09 :-)05

Assuming that would work I'll be going for it later this year, maybe. There is a middle run before my chicken coop of a further 5m X 4m (aprox) that is fenced upto 2 meters but without a top cover.... It'd be nice to use it if It's possible to clip wings or some such........ 8-)
