Hello! I'm new to the forum, and don't want to cross-post, but having left a little message to say "hi" and what I'm doing in the new members' bit, I'm just posting here in the main bit, otherwise most people won't see it. I'm trying to save the large fowl Houdan in the UK, so please can you get in touch if you are interested or know anyone who has them? Thanks!

I expect you have probably contacted the Rare Breed Society, I am not sure if there is a registrar for Houdans at the moment, maybe you could be considered? Certainly most breeders would be affiliated through the PCGB.

A good contact would be Stuart Clark, PM me if you would like his details, plus Sue Bruton who has been breeding Houdans for around 40 years in the UK and has contacts with the Houdan and Faverolles club in France, I have those details if you do not already have them, she would be happy to help.

Thanks very much for your help. I've contacted Stuart Clark, and Tony Bennett who is I think the registrar for Houdans (he keeps bantams) and Sue Bruton (she keeps bantams too). I'm just checking that I'm not missing anybody in my UK Houdan survey. Between the few remaining large fowl breeders, we are having modest success with chick hatching this year, and have increased the number of breeders by one (that's alot when there were only 6 to start with!) We are also hoping to swap birds around to reduce inbreeding - tricky as the gene pool is so small. I'm not a breeder (can't keep a cockerel here), but do research, coordination, negotiation, egg hatching, chick rearing and transport. I just wanted to buy one Houdan hen as a pet last year, and then became involved when it was clear there were none to be had! Thanks again - keep posting folks!

I have just lost my pld Houdan hen and am very sad because she was my favourite. I still have my 2 Cochins but would love to find another Houdan girl or two if anyone has them available? I have considered breeding them myself, because I could keep a cockerel but the only thing stopping me is worrying what would I do with all the boys? What do other people do? Best wishes, Rose
