Hi there everyone! I'm new to this site and reasonably new to chicken keeping. I have a standard coop located on a nice flat piece of land and also an ark which is not occupied at the moment. The ark is situated on a sloping hillside as most of the garden is this way. I am a little concerned as to whether it will damage my birds posture or feet if they roost on a tilt? Left to right is level so they won't be sliding into each other, just possibly have to correct themselves slightly front to back ? Will this be ok or will I need the level the ark so as the roosting bar is completely level. Many thanks

Welcome to the forum Vegplot. I'd level it off even though I doubt the birds will be affected. We level all of our wooden coops because of rain water drainage off the roof -if they are not absolutely level the water runs down the cladding, which causes it to warp and split. As the coops are raised off the ground (to provide shelter and resist rats) it is simply a case of digging in the legs on one side and blocking up the legs on the other. All our runs are on a slight slope which ensures they are well drained. Some of our chickens hate sloping land -it's the large breeds, Orpingtons and Wyandottes. The lighter flightier breeds are not bothered at all.

Many thanks for the welcome and reply to my question chrismahon :D
I took your advice to level it, which my husband and son did at the weekend. I now have my growers and they seem very happy at the moment. My original five are separate but can see the growers so as they can get used to each other from a distance. I think I'm worrying a little, but my original group seem to be sulking a little bit ! I try to make a conscious effort to give each group the same amount of time to avoid this but I do feel guilty if they aren't as happy. i hope this will settle in the next few weeks as the newness of the growers arrival fades :-)05
Thanks again for your time to answer, it put my mind at rest!
