i read in p/p mag that you can use herbs to help with colds and a few other things as anyone used herbs and had any success ? at the mo i am trying oregano but there was another one i think it was herban or something ,it sounds horrid but i cant really afford a bill for antiboitics for a few weeks and i am wary after the last lot i got as some of my girls were still sneezing for some time after but i would really like to try natural stuff to see just if it works or not of course i wont let the girls suffer and if they do need anything stronger then i will get it .

Hi, i always use homeopathic remedies for my chooks if they have nothing too serious. seems to work. herbs are definatley worth a try, wont do any harm anyway.

Bex, Would you be able to give a "use this herb for this ailment" list as from a personal opinion I would much rather use a natural remedy over an antibiotic (unless necessary obviously!) I have loads of baytril and Tylan should I ever have a seriously poorly chook but I would be intrigued to hear what you use

i would be interested as well :D a friend of mine works in medicine and there isnt anyhting she dont know and i asked her about it yesterday and she warned me of some herbs never to touch but said well most cough mixtures etc all have the herbs in them so we know they are good and work shame you cant get chickens to sniff albas oils as that really works for me

i was looking it up the other day couldnt find much but did have the following
cinnamon, tumeric, star anise, apple cider vin, garlic
and all round get well med was
1/2 to 1 cooked egg yolk
1teaspoon cod liver oil
drizzel honey
2 table spoon yog
2 - 4 spoon rolled oats
desert spoon of beef cat food
multi vits for fowl
2 tablespoon grated apple
mixed to a dryish food given first thing in the morn
im not sure about the yog but the other stuff looks ok. i always give sick chooks honey.

Hey, i have this book that is called Homeopathy for pets, its brilliant, you can probably get it from ebay or amazon. As far as specific herbs to use for each ailment,i'll be honest, i dont know. :D

minus the cat food that lot sounds quite yummy   well my little bantie that was sneezing a lot has settled down today { only heard 2 sneezes } and no bubbles from the eyes for a few days and they have been on oregrano which i have put in thier water as at the mo the wormer is going in their feed dont know if shes picking up on her own or this is working :-)17
