Our neighbors, in close terraces, seem to like the countryside nostalgia but I have been on the lookout for any sign of upset. It was more fortune than good judgment. Good luck! If you can keep him it will be great to see him fully feathered up.
Well,... Would you believe it Peckford is 16 weeks and I'm still none the wiser at working out if it's Mr or Miss!!! Peckford seems to be a New Hampshire Red Bantam, and she or he has some beautiful long green feathers on the tail, but the crown is no bigger than the other hens. The noise is more like the hen like cry not that of a rooster, and we get face offs with the other hens.
On the other hand, our young Ancona rooster who's 2 days older has a full rooster crown, a full cockledoodledoo any time of the day, enjoys having several girlfriends (especially the older ones - a bit of a toy boy!!), looks after each and everyone of them, even protecting them when they get a bit rough between them. The older hens treat him differently, like it doesn't matter if he gets in the coop at the same time as the older hens, but the younger hens and Peckford are shown the back of the queue if they dare going in first....
But I've not seen one example of hens with linger tail feathers....
It's driving me mad!
So... I'll try and get a couple of photos on here and see what you think.... ? If that's ok...

How interesting! I hope you can get some photos on. If you have problems you could download the Tapatalk app, it's really easy to upload photos from there. They just come as a text link that people can click on.

Last night I had to intervene because as per one of the photos Peckford was stood on the ladder whilst everyone else was tucked away in the caravan (as we call their coop). Peep (one of the original hens, a smooth pekin bantam) who is normally the most maternal one in behaviour was pecking Peckford each time he/she was making a move to go in... Normally Tom the young Ancona rooster is the closest to the door so he acts as a shield between the older and the younger ones... but this time he was being hugged by all 4 older hens, with Peeo closest to the door. Peckford eventually moved in when I put a stick between the two and Peep just turned round and away... I observed for a little while through the peeping hole and Peckford went in the opposite corner, snuggling up to the 2 young Anconas.
This morning though, Peckford and one if the 2 young Ancona hen had a proper fight... Not sure why. But it's like nothing happened and they're best mates again...
I shoukd say that Peep is Tom's favourite as well. And I think she gets jealous when he goes after any other hens...

What a gloriously coloured bird. I bet that foxy-golden plumage looks fantastic in the sunlight.

I love his black plumage tail feathers. Very flamboyant. Did you discover the breeding?

Very shiny coat! Absolutely love his colours. To say that we had to rescue him from one particularly aggressive hen the day he hatched. I fed him with a pipette, and was really not sure that he was going to make the night... He's come a long way since. I don't understand why he is being singled out by the older hens still.

Maybe the older hens are jealous ?
More likely that they know he's a teenage boy with naughty thoughts, and are putting him in his place!
