hI, I Currently have a single ayelsbury duck (although I'm suspicious she may be a cross due to her delicate frame) who lives with her 'chap' a very passive indian runner. They get on well but she's clearly the boss. Have seen them mating many times. Anyway, 3 weeks ago madam built herself an impressive nest inside their house and has only been popping out for a few minutes at a time for a munch and a splash. I read everywhere I look that ducks, particularly ayelsburies are poor mothers. She has close to 20 eggs in there and a gentle brush with the back of my hand indicated that they were all warm.

Am I being over optimistic to think she might hatch all these?

And what about daddy? Is he ok to be around them? She wont let him in the house but he's happy to sleep in the reeds by his pond.

Hello, some ducks are very good mothers- others not so- they may not all be fertile so she may not hatch them all- muskovies can have 20 or so duckling with no problems- i would just wait and see what, if anything she brings off- most drakes are ok with ducklings.
regards, David :)

Ok, thanks ever so much. It sounds like I just need to wait and hope she gets a few babies for all her efforts. :)
Thanks David
