Hi, can anyone tell me what to do about soft eggs. My 2 vorwerks have been laying for about 2 weekd and the last 2 days the eggs have been very soft, what do i need to give them to stop this happening. They have the run of the garden and seem to be very content, doing all the 'happy chicken' things you would normally expect.

stu :o

Hi Stu

Oyster shell/grit and layers pellets should be enough to get decent shells. They can't always get enough grit from the ground when free ranging especially with the snow and frozen ground we have had recently.

Let us know how you get on.

Thats great thanks for the fast reply, they already have layers mash but will now go and invest in some grit. thanks :D

just quizzed my 'reluctant chicken carer' (wife!!) as ive been away for a week working and she mis understood the feeding instructions and basically she fed them mainly scratch corn every day along with treats.... no wonder the food hopper was hardly touched!!! now the proud owner of very spoilt chickens!!!! but at least the 'reluctant chicken carer' now has a soft spot for HER girls, charming?!?!?!?!?
