HI all
Im new to this so ill need as much info as posible
Just brought my incubator that holds 7 eggs Brinsea Mini Advance and an eco grow brooder .
Still in the reading up stage of how to do this corectley ( or the best i can ) and would like to get help from here .
My children aged 9 and 7 both like the look of the Silkies and it says they are good for childern .
Also i want to keep 2 or 3 as pets .

My mum has 2 hens ( not to sure what type ) that lay an egg each a day and are also very tame , the kids love them and so i thought getting them from eggs would be nicer for the kids , I do know that there could also be some tears from them but i like the fact they can take part from the very start .

So a big hello to all .

Hello and welcome to the forum :) Read all you can on line and in books/magazines, browse the forum-there is plenty of information on here and ask anything you are not sure of. It's a very addictive hobby :D
regards, David :)

Heya Boo ;)

Welcome. I'm working on some eggs right now also. My boy Rowan has lost interest atm. (He's 11 and we are mid way through), but when they pip, I'll bet that will change ! I've also promised to invite some local toddlers over to see the brooder when thay hatch so they can follow up on me taking my cockrell and a Hen into Nursery school a week or so back ... Kids and chooks :-)17 A great mix and it leads onto so many little projects.. :D

Hi Boo,

Welcome to the forum.

In answer to your questions: 1. No, sadly they will hatch 50/50

2. There are a few great articles on the site that Laurence Beeken wrote (author of the excellent Chicken Manual) about Silkies in our Silkie Section

Hope this helps...

Tim
