Hello from Yorkshire!

Hi all, just a quick intro and a few questions.

I'm Carl and I'm an alcoholic ... Sorry wrong forum :shock:

We currently have 4 buff orpingtons and about 15 mixed layers.

We are hoping to start breeding but not quite sure on what breeds, what breeds are peoples favs? We have lots of space so was thinking about having 3 different breeds, 1 of them we are thinking about are marans as the brown eggs are quite popular but unsure on the other 2.

Any tips or suggestions would be great! :smile:

Hi Carl and welcome to the Forum.
Now you're on here, you might like to start another thread about your choice of birds, as if you post in the General Chickens forum instead of the Welcome section, more people may read and reply to it.
I guess it depends on what you want your choice of breeds to do- you seem to be interested in egg production and coloured eggs are popular, as you say. Would you want to sell the chicks or at POL, or keep them as your own flock?

Adding to Marigold's comments. What will you do with the excess cockerels? Usually people start breeding and then are faced with that problem -good idea to have a plan. If you are going to eat them your choice of breed will be reduced somewhat. You will also need separate growing facilities.
