Hi Joe, and welcome to the Forum, I'm so glad you found us. I looked at your interesting blog, and once again thought how good it is to have yet another international member. Evidently you had a really hot, dry summer last year - very different from us in the soggy U.K. Lovely pics of the flowers, though. And these instructions for making nest boxes, with the pictures, are very helpful, people on here do a lot of that sort of thing. What is winter like in Wisconsin? Looking forward to hearing more about your small holding and the birds.

Thanks Marigold!

Here are some pics of the nest box

Welcome to the forum Wholeview. We build loads of stuff, it's part of the low -budget poultry keeping thing. I get nearly as much pleasure from building coops, runs and shelters and seeing them being used successfully as I do from actually keeping the chickens. Have never built a free-standing nest box though as none of our coops are big enough to house one -they all have to be mobile so our biggest coop is only 6' x 4'.

Great blog. The price of your plywood is incredible. Four times that price in the UK and here. Boiled linseed oil is a great idea -I use creosote and paraffin mix for all our surfaces, which is nasty stuff but stops mites. Will check out the linseed over here.
