Hello from Edinburgh

Hi! We are a family in Edinburgh finally about to get four hens after a few years of thinking about it. We have a large garden overlooking the city with enough room for the girls to get lots of exercise. They can't free range unsupervised alas as there is a regular fox, so most of our efforts are on working out how we can best protect them
I'm looking for the basic 'kit' list as there seems to be an incredible amount of stuff to buy but we are starting small! Will post pics of the run & girls very soon, looking forward to being a hen keeper in the next couple of weeks.

Welcome to the forum Greenlintie. Taking the sensible route of researching it first. When we started we bought 7 unsexed 7 week old Orpington chicks from a friend on a whim and had overlooked them needing a coop -that came later. They slept overnight in the cellar under a lamp. It was a very steep learning curve for us, especially when some of our 'hens' started to crow!
