Hello we have many chickens which we keep in our allotment and we also grow veggies

We have a mixture of birds which are
5 ISA brown hens
trio of silkies
trio of pekins
2 light sussex
2 cream legbar, from bad breeder, one seems to be a cross as she lays brown eggs
2 ancuocana's
a black leghorn
a speckled sussex
and a rooster that we don't know what breed he is looks like a rhode island red but isn't the deep red/brown colour

My name is Tina btw :D

Hello Tina,

That's a real mixture you have!

I also have an allotment but keep my hens in a field away from my veggies ;)

Thanks for saying hello...

Tim

Your lucky, our allotment is the only place we can keep them and grow veggies

Well, I am very lucky since a friend owns quite a few fields locally and she has let me fence off a small area to raise my birds which is ideal for me.

Our garden isn't that big - but I have worked hard at creating some beds for veggies where the lawn once was - I have used old railway sleepers (we live on a hill and the garden is on a slope) and I grow most of the tender stuff - french beans, lettuce, etc here.

I grow the 'bulk' like potatoes, onions, courgettes, pumpkins, squash, red and black currants, at the allotment which is 4 miles away. Basically everything I can't fit in easily at home...!

The photo below is from a couple of years ago -before we had the allotment and as you can see there's not alot of room to grow everything but we still managed to grow a little bit of most things...

saying a new hello, since it's been a while since i posted on here, my stock list is very different now and only have 2 ISA hens, have more silkies, have 2 cream legbar but different to the other 2, 2 cream legbar cross welsummer, 2 chocolate orpingtons, 2 araucana's, a white leghorn, speckledy, a few mutts and soon to be buff orpingtons, cuckoo maran and silver duckwing leghorn

Hello again Dellydoo ;)

Nice to see you back on the Forum...

Cream Legbars are great, I used to keep a flock of 20 or so before I cut back after getting children and a umm website :-)11

Choc Orps look fantastic, lovely looking birds. I kept Gold Laced, White and the compulsory Buffs for 7 or 8 years. One day I will get some Orps again, they are beautiful birds.
