G'day everyone,
Have just joined the forum to get info about broody hens but will post that in the appropriate area. I live in Rockhampton, Queensland Australia and have loved chickens ever since I was a child and we adopted a silky rooster from the local preschool. He was a super friendly chicken as he was raised with all the children and no other chickens so he may have had identity issues. He's the only chicken I've ever owned that would come when called and actually jump into your lap so you could scratch his earlobes. I'm now the proud mother of two children, a terrier, a Shetland sheepdog, a yabbie (shrimp/freshwater crayfish), some fish, a galah (pink Australian parrot) and three beautiful black Pekins. Until recently it was four but sadly one of my hens died suddenly in the last few days. Look forward to discussing chicken issues with you all,

Rebecca

Hiya Rebecca,

Nice of you to drop in. Bet it's warm where you are, I'm jealous. :D ;)

Welcome and hope you find out what you need here. We're an odd bunch of chicken addicts, mainly from the UK but we do have some people from other parts of the World dropping by.

Tim

Hi Rebecca,

I think we're all jealous, that you've got warmer weather than us at the moment.I'm just consoling myself that it would be too hot to do anything!!!!
Very sorry that you lost one of your pekins recently,it is sad to lose any pet, and, chooks have such character.
What colour/s are your pekins?
you must be busy with all those pets.I've got a native of your country in my lounge, only,he wasn't bred in Australia but over here.Think he'd love it if I could ship him over to you and you could release him.
oh,he's a Coastal Carpet Python btw, called Stripe......my son calls him Strike......sure you can all guess why ;) .

It's actually pretty hot - around 33oC at the moment and it will only get more hot and humid in the next few months. Our best time of year weatherwise is the winter (if you can call it that) when temps are in the mid 20's and it's not humid. Best time for growing veges as there are not too many bugs around to eat them. My girls are all black but were black and white as chicks so they are not a pure black. My broody hen has just hatched two gorgeous silky chicks - one black and yellow and the other yellow with a black stripe.
