Hello, my name is Kitty. I see most of you all are from across the pond...would love to visit over there again soon! I live in Delaware, which is on the east coast of the US on the Atlantic...I live not far from the beach.

I raise a variety of featherheads but am pretty new to the waterfowl. I have had chickens (mostly Astralorp, Buff Orpington and Speckled Sussex but also a couple Polish) for a few years. I have raised turkeys for a couple years too, I have a breeding pair of Standard Bronze, Jersey Buff and Royal Palm.

I had a friend give me a few ducks and I decided I liked them and have settled on raising two specific breeds: Khaki Campbell for their eggs and Muscovy for their bug eating and for meat ducks. I have totally fallen in love with my Muscovies, they are very cool. I have two trios and some babies from the first trio. The first trio are the brown and cream colored and the second is the grey, black and white.

Anyway, I look forward to reading the posts and learning!

Cheers,

Kitty

Hi Kitty, and a big welcome to the forum. It's good to have another member from so far away, and we look forward to hearing more about how you keep your birds. Can you post some pictures for us to see?

Hiya Kitty,
You've gotten some lovely birdies there, sorry but I am biased towards Muscovies albeit I have none now only Indian {Road} Runners and Lohmann hens

Hi Kitty and welcome to the forum. We have had a few new members from the USA recently. Storey's guide to Raising Chickens by Gail Dumelow is a great book but the list of predators in it makes alarming reading! Have you had any problems with snakes and racoons?

I have had some issues with fox and Great Horned Owls this year, sadly. This is the first year I have had issues like this other than a random Red Tail with my free ranging hens...but that has been rare. This year I lost half a dozen Khaki Campbell teenagers to a Great Horned over one weekend and about the same amount of free ranging chicken hens to the fox who showed up just at sunset before I got home from work to lock everyone in.

And thanks for the welcome!
