Hello from California

Hello! I'm new to the forum and thought I would drop in and introduce myself. I grew up on a ranch where we had chickens but they were always just "there", we never gave them too much attention. But now that I live in town, the chickens are an easy way to remind me of the country and I have found that I really enjoy watching them in my yard. I have a mixed flock of Cuckoo Marans, Buff Orpington, Blue Wyandotte, Ameraucanas, Buckeye and Barred Rock. I just added two ducklings to the menagerie. (posted a thread in the waterfowl section) I hope to find some useful tips and information and possibly make a couple of friends. Anyways, that's me and the chickens!

Yes I'm sure you'll make more than a couple of friends on here, it's always interesting to hear about how people keep their birds in different countries all over the world. I don't know what kind of ducklings they are, but they are really beautiful little birds.

I have 15 total right now. Sadly, my only Buckeye is a rooster and I can't have a rooster where we live, so I will be finding him a new home. And I forgot to mention my Golden Sexlinks! I want to go through and get some individual pictures of my birds, so I will post new ones. I love the variety, especially in the Ameracaunas.

Hello Darkwings and welcome to the forum. Minnie, your Blue Wyandotte is lovely. We have Blue Laced Wyandottes that look very similar but have less blue and more brown in the feathering. What is a Buckeye?

Thank you, she's one of my favorites. A Buckeye is an American bred bird. They are big, solid, dual purpose birds and are fairly rare. They are incredible hardy and are supposed to have a prey drive. Supposedly they will kill mice, but mine seems to have reached peace terms with the mouse that lives in the coop. 09
