Yes, you will need to dust them with diatom regularly for a few weeks - and it will take a while to work but it does work in the end. You may find every day is too much - I would be thinking perhaps every 3rd day

Have a close look at their bottoms for any 'dirt' that in fact on close examination are moving mites.
 
Thanks Tim , some of my girls are more receptive to having their bottoms looked at than others , but I did have a look at one of my girls today , and I couldnt spot anything , thats not to say theyre not there , shes an amber so i fear theyd be harder to spot on her light colouring ... will give one of the black rocks a good look over tomoro!
