Hi y'all !
I'm new to this forum and I am here to present my problem.
So yesterday was a big day and my duckling finally popped externally. He did it at about 2 PM and now it's 5:58 AM and there has been no progress or anything. I haven't heard any noise (chirps/quacks) since about 4PM yesterday. I think it's resting about I'm like freaking out because all I want is for it to chirp/quack so I know it's alive !
Any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks.

I take it you are talking to your little peep to encourage it? Is there any noise any rocking or anything to indicate it is still alive? Are you hatching in an incubator? Is the humidity ok? Are there any other ducklings hatching with it?
This does seem a long time between external pipping and hatching but there can be many variables-the drying out of the membrane being the main concern once externally pipped. How are things now? There are a few of us here who have done assisted hatches (I did one) who can support you if necessary.

LOL yes everytime I walk into the room the incubator is in, I encourage it and say hello. I've set the eggs on different days so today or tomorrow is this eggs hatching date and the next egg(s) to hatch wont be until next weekend. It is still chirping/quacking along with pipping at the opening it has already made. The humidity is at 73% now and I know it should be at 75% or higher but I can't open it since its in hatching stage. Right now it's being quiet because it's usually this time that it goes to rest. Between 8AM-1PM its awake and chirping and pipping then at 2PM it sleeps until around 6-7PM and does a little more pipping then I don't know what it does while I sleep. And that is where we are at now.

This is where we are at now, with a piece off successfully but now I can't see anything underneath. :-)09

Hopefully by the time you read this he may of hatched, but if not be patient! he may well be breaking the shell underneath, have found this quite often with chicken eggs thinking nothings happening. :-)17

& sit tight & dont open the incy!

The photo doesn't look too good I'm afraid. You should see some activity at this stage, wobbling, beak poking through interspersed with rest periods as the duckling hatches. This period from start to finish can take a day on average, but can take up to two days.

Thanks for the replies and all, he has now pipped through half of the fat end of the shell so he's zipped through half of it, his beak is out through an opening and I can see his heart beating like through this skin. He is resting now after 6 hours of making progress but he's still chirping/quacking and he's expanding his body to see if he can get the other half to break. But nothing yet. Almost there though !

He's getting there, he's resting for about an hour then he goes and pushes like crazy.
He's a picture of where we are at now :

Thanks. :D

The one I had to assist could only get his beak out cos his membrane was dried up and shrunk round him. He was cheeping at me and although I knew all the advice was against assisting I went ahead cos otherwise I was going to loose him. I now have a healthy runner duck.
Yours looks to be making good, if a bit slow progress-is it possible to up the humidity-the membrane looks dry,the enemy of a successful hatch. But don't open the incubator as this will dry him up further.

HE'S OUT

Here yu go ! :

He's trying to dry off now.
When should I transfer it to the brooder?

He's fine in there for 24hrs as he has enough food internally to keep him going. Get the brooder ready and up to temperature.
I must admit to fearing he might need some intervention from you so your patience was rewarded.
Well done and congratulations on the safe arrival! Can't wait to see him all fluffed up! :-)08

When I thought all was well in the world, my duckling comes out to have a skeletal deformity where his head is permanently tilted to one side along with his neck. The breeders said that adding pressure onto his neck and head into the right position could help but it's not certain. They also said that they don't know if medication can help or not.

See how he goes over the next couple of days, it might just be it's because he took a bit longer to hatch. Is the duckling able to eat and drink yet?

We have to put food and water up to his mouth because when he is on his own, all he does it tilt his head back and fall.

Yes he was all squashed up for so long and desperately trying to push his way out that he may well have strained a muscle in his neck that will need time to recover.I would gently handle him and put him in the correct position as often as you can.
I'll keep my fingers crossed for him.

I will try that, is there any medications or nutrients that I could give him if it's a muscle strain or a skeletal deformity? Any of this reversable?

This am sometimes be resolved with the equivalent of a cardboard tube like a mini toilet roll to keep his neck in place for a few days. They develop so fast at this stage that things can be corrected in a couple if days but in the other hand if left can get worse and develop further in the same time period.
