Hatched Today

A few photos of our mixed hatch of Thuringian Bantams, White Orloffs, Mixed Aracuanas and Silver Sussex, another three chicks drying off in the incubator, though unfortunately I think one will not end up pulling through .

Congratulations Dinosaw! They look a beautiful brood. I've never heard of Thuringian bantams before. They sound a very interesting breed mix. I hope your weaker one survives.

Thanks for the lovely comments. The Thuringian has only been in the UK since 2000, they are very noisy chicks I have to say, ordinarily with the noise they make you would think they were in distress but you go in to have a look and they are perfectly happy, they quiet down as soon as you speak to them. The weak chick went in with her friends today, we will see how she goes.

A few more photos of the chicks at a week old, already well feathered on the wings, the Silver Sussex shown is almost certainly a boy, from behaviour as well as the already prominent comb, he is a boisterous little fellow. The little Thuringian is getting its trademark beard, we have two very different colours of Thuringian chicks so we will have to see how they turn out.

Yes they are, thanks for asking Chickenfan, in fact you would never have known they had a problem now, amazing the difference an elastoplast can make isn't it.

The top SS is a boy. Is the first photo going to be a chamois thuringian? I've always fancied keeping the breed

Thuringian 1 is very statuesque.

Yes the little brown chick at the top of the first set of photos is a Thuringian too.

Sorry I'm being a complete div, the light brown ones should be Gold Spangled Thuringians and the blonde ones will be Chamois, I had totally forgotten that they were listed as Gold Spangled/Chamois , we had been scratching our heads for the past fortnight over how different they looked, well that's that puzzle solved then, doesn't exactly inspire confidence does it :lol: .

Those chicks are gorgeous Dinosaw! I had never heard of a thuringians before, I am intrigued! I am so glad the weaker one survived

They are a lovely breed Chuckchick, some of the friendliest birds I have ever had.
