Hi folks,

I hope it's OK to put this thread in 2 places - it's in General Waterfowl as well.

I need to get hold of a goose or duck pot/dummy egg - plastic would be fine.

My hen keeping friend and I want to make some pot eggs at our pottery class but need a large egg to make the mould as there's a lot of shrinkage in the process, our china pot eggs are too small

I've not had much luck looking on the web - apart from some on ebay in America.

Anyone have any ideas where we could get one in the UK?

Thanks.

Eventually found some solid plastic duck eggs at Solway Feeders which are perfect for making the plaster of paris mould - when we tried hand moulding we ended up with some really weird shaped eggs!! I know we can buy them and probably cheaper than we'll make them if you take the cost of the class and the cost of the clay intp account - but that isn't the point is it?

No, it's not the same. You will give it character and it could be something that can be passed on. Post a picture when their done. Terri was telling me last night that we don't have anything "chicken" in our house. If you make extra we would love to have one. You never know, this is something that could take off :-)08 Different designs and colors. These could be your own style of "Faberge Eggs". You could call them "Margaid Eggs" :-)08 I'm placing and order for 2.

Good Luck!

I'd been thinking that once we'd made the mould we could also make some just for decoration using a different firing method known as Raku. I need to consult the potter as to whether they would stand the thermal shock - with Raku firing you take things out of the kiln while they're white hot and the change in temperature cracks the glaze to give the interesting effect. They also have to have a "blow hole" to let the heat expanded air escape - he wouldn't be too pleased if we wrecked a firing with an exploding egg!!

I'm not taking orders yet, it could be a complete disaster !!

I'm not good with photos, but if they turn out well enough I'll see what I can do.
