Goose moult

One of my geese is moulting on its' chest. Could this be 'cos of some parasite (red mite?) or is just plain old moulting? If it was a parasite would I be able to see it and if it is that what should I do?

is it bald or just dishevelled generally? can you see feathers around the place?

Just a bit dishevelled around chest area and preens itself there. Could it be what they call a double moult? Would have thought too cold for mites??

Where are you? I am in the UK and one of my ducks is molting. She looks really sorry for herself! If your goose has lice you should be able to spot them. Worth a wipe under the wings with frontline from the vet to be sure. Ask your vet's advice. I get the spray and dampen a cotton wool ball and wipe under each wing for lice.

Yup, in UK too - West Sussex. Had a good look this morning and no sign of lice but will try the Frontline idea. Thanks.
